Most school-aged children wake up early, eat breakfast and hop on the bus by 7 a.m. Then they’ll sit through six hours of scheduled class periods before heading home. eAchieve Academy, an entirely online K-12 school in Wisconsin, works a little differently.

“In our school they don’t do any of that,” says Chris Schulties, the logistics and marketing manager eAchieve Academy. “They get up, they fire up their computer and they log on. That could be at 7 a.m., 8 a.m. or noon. They have a lot more flexibility in how they structure their time.”

eAchieve is a fully accredited K-12 charter school and after graduation many of its students go on to attend traditional colleges and universities. It’s like a physical school in many ways. There are still homework, exams, projects and even field trips. However, the online format allows for more flexibility not only in terms of scheduling, but in terms of content. Curriculum and educational materials are chosen by the teachers.
